- Notes on Qmodem version 1.11.
-
- Getting better all the time!! This version of Qmodem now
- includes a new file transfer protocol called IMP. IMP stands for
- Internal Modem Protocol. Using Qmodem to Qmodem at 2400 baud, it
- achieves a transfer rate in excess of 110 blocks a minute! it
- works out to an effective baud rate of 2350 baud, error checked!
- Normal xmodem clocks in at around 1920 baud. These comparisons
- were done at 2400 baud, using ARK 24K modems with built-in MNP
- over regular phone lines (I have two computer lines installed for
- bulletin boards). Putting the modems into MNP mode really zips
- the transfers along!
-
- Qmodem now actually transmits and receives data faster due to new
- logic in the async interrupt procedures.
-
- Also, there are some new configuration options that many of you
- will appreciate. One, you can set the type of window you want to
- appear, growing (like before) or Instant display. You can
- specify CTS line checking if your modem can support it (or has
- to).
-
- A new command has also been added, Alt-B. This will toggle the
- upload/download/redial connect bells and whistles if you work in
- a business environment. It just toggles the sounds from Qmodem.
-
- The new docs will be out before October 12th. Look for the best!
-
- Remember, the Forbin Project BBS called Colossus, is up and
- running at 319-277-0044! 300/1200/2400 on an ARK 24K modem!
